What Makes a Great Family: Part 2

What Makes a Great Family?

Part 2: Train Together

Train means to teach so as to make fit, qualified, or proficient, or to form discipline. While they may seem daunting at first we strive to train with enthusiasm.  We enjoy exercise in particular. Jesse is a certified trainer and understands the importance of physical fitness, nutrition, and overall health. He loves to train people, but most of all he loves working out with his family. We have a home gym where we work out. Jesse designs our weekly workouts. Usually we do them together and he will have the girls do a similar workout. If they do not want to workout that day and would rather play, we allow such flexibility.

We do everything together as a family. If mom and dad are working out, the girls are generally in the room either joining us or playing something together. They understand our workouts are an important daily routine.  Exercise is kept engaging for them by the use of fun, popping music. On sunny days, we take advantage of the weather by getting outside for family walks. We do a lot of hiking. Hikes help develop the girls character, perseverance, and leadership skills.

One important aspect of training together is creating the right language as a family. Yes we pursue strong, healthy bodies, but we do not idolize being a certain size or weight. The girls will not hear their mother constantly speaking negatively about her figure or their figures. We are all striving to be strong, healthy and live a fulfilling life together. We are not seeking the perfect bodies, rather we are keeping our bodies functioning for the glory of God.
